reviewed Them ~12 months ago

If you didn't already have a reason not to live in the middle of no where, with flicks like THE EVICTORS(1979) and THE STRANGERS(2008), you do now. THEM, is a beautiful portrayal of what it is to really fight to survive. Running at 75 edge of your seat minutes THEM throws you right in with the characters. If you have seen THE STRANGERS you will likely see similarities and extreme differences in the two. The characters in THEM are much better at fighting to stay alive whereas the characters in THE STRANGERS are classic horror victims. The people in this show what raw fear can do to a person. So, if you are looking for a classic scare with lots of running/falling/running some more that eventually leads to a happy ending then skip this one. If not then turn off the lights and lock your doors. (who am I kidding that never works with them.)

reviewed Inside ~12 months ago

INSIDE is a long awaited breath of fresh air! In a time of remakes and the same old formula used in every thriller/horror film it is nice to see something new pop up. This French masterpiece is nothing like I had seen before. A young mother-to-be is involved in a horrific accident that takes the life of her young husband and father-to-be but this is only the beginning of her troubles. Skip forward in time to the night before the mother-to-be is supposed to give birth and we meet a sadistic woman who wants desperately to have a baby of her own at any cost. This movie threw me a curve ball in that I went in virtually blind to what this movie was. It has a bit of the Giallo genre thrown in with the leather gloved psychopath. INSIDE is a no-holds-bar roller coaster of violent proportions. This movie is not for the squeamish or faint of heart. Also, don't expect to be left with a happy feeling by the time the credits roll.

reviewed Death Race ~12 months ago

So I was really pumped for some outrageous action when I went to see this movie and what did I get? Exactly what I was looking for with a little bit of reality thrown in. The gist of this movie is prisoners are given the option to race against other prisoners and if they win 5 races they get to go free not matter what their crime was while being broadcast live over the internet. The cars are old junkers that are given to the prisoners to fix up with guns, armor, spikes, etc. The prison itself is on an island right off of a very narrow bridge and within the prison is a track that the prisoners compete in. A new guy is brought into the prison (Jason Statham) after he is accused of murdering his wife. He has experience in racing and is to pretend he is a former racer, Frankenstein, who is 1 race away of winning his freedom. So you are probably wondering where the reality comes into all of this. The movie is set in the near future right after the U.S. economy collapses. Unemployment sky rockets and as a result the crime rate also raises. In order to control the prison population Death Race is introduced as a way to kill off prisoners and possibly set some free. These races are broadcast over the internet and for a sum of money the public can buy a subscription; much like in real life when people pre-order fights on paperview. At first look this movie seems over the top but if you dive in a little bit you come to realize that all of this could actually happen.

reviewed Pathology ~12 months ago

If you could kill anyone and completely get away with it would you? PATHOLOGY takes this question to a whole new level. In this sexy thriller we are thrown into a deadly game with some of the most talented and deadly pathologists you will ever encounter. This movie shocked me with the amount of gore it actually has. I went in expecting a thriller with minimal blood but I got much more which was a welcome surprise. At a short 93 minutes this movie delivers a very well developed story. And with a cast full of television stars; Milo Ventmiglia (HEROES) and Alyssa Milano (CHARMED), this movie still delivers nicely. All the bloody events lead up to a much ideserved/i ending in every sense of the word.
