Summary of This Is England '86
This Is England '86 is a British drama series written by Shane Meadows and Jack Thorne. It is a spin-off of the film This Is England, and is set three years later, focussing on the mod revival scene instead of the skinhead subculture. This Is England '86 stars the much of the same cast as the film, but Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) plays less of a central role than in the film. The main character of the series is Lol (Vicky McClure). This is the first time Meadows has had a female-lead story.
It is set when the 1986 FIFA World Cup was in Mexico, Chris de Burgh was number one in the music charts and 3.4 million people were unemployed in Britain. As Shaun completes his last school exam, he realises he will have to find his way in the world. His friends — including Woody, Lol, Smell, Gadget, and Meggie — are still around, looking for love, entertainment, and employment.[
