Profile of The Shield
The mood of The Shield is tense, rough, and suspenseful. The plot centers around going against the rules, police corruption, and a tough law enforcer. It is a crime, drama, and action TV show. Stylistically, The Shield stars an ensemble cast. In approach, it is serious and realistic. The pacing is fast. The Shield takes place, at least partly, in a police station. The setting is Los Angeles. It happens in contemporary times. The Shield is known for being a hit series, a Golden Globe winner, and an Emmy winner. It is especially suggested for a boys' night. Note that it includes strong violent content and drugs/alcohol.
Summary of The Shield
Shawn Ryan, a regular writer for "Angel" and other programs, created this crime drama to challenge the mores of televised entertainment and to provide a heightened reality with increasingly complicated moral questions. Michael Chiklis stars as Vic Mackey, perhaps television's most no-nonsense detective. His violent, brutal methods bring results, but are often despised by his colleague Detective Wyms (CCH Pounder). Also included are a cast of layered characters including a homosexual cop (Michael Jace) and an officer who is also running for office (Benito Martinez). The show's popularity on the F/X network comes from its hard boiled delivery emphasized by unflinching portrayals of police brutality and unclean street language.
