Summary of The Day of the Triffids

THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS first appeared on British television screens in 1981, and the show quickly gathered a loyal following. The series depicts a future world in which a meteor shower has rendered the population of Britain blind. But that's not all; the shower has also caused vegetables, referred to as the Triffids, to rise up against mankind, wreaking havoc and destruction on the already-ailing population. Fortunately a few people discover that their eyesight still functions, and the heroic Bill Masen (John Duttine) is one of them. Bill joins forces with Jo Pleyton (Emma Relph), who can also see, and they gradually round up other fully-sighted people so they can take on the deadly Triffids together. Fans of British sci-fi shows such as DOCTOR WHO and BLAKE'S 7 should find much to enjoy here, and the show oozes an early '80s charm that is likely to win over a new audience.
