For those of us who grew up reading Jane Austen, it's hard to imagine any screen version being able to truly bring to life the one story that captivated us so. But this production manages to [miraculously] do so. It's no secret that Collin Firth has since become a heart-throb and women's ideal personification of Darcy (something Firth himself got quite tired of!) and rightfully so. He definitely did Darcy "proud" (both here and in Bridget Jones' Diary.) But to be fair, all the other characters are perfectly cast here as well, with Jennifer Ehle (Lizzy) being my other favorite. No other screen adaptation had come even close to the magic of the book for me before--and since. My hat's off to A&E for pulling off such a magnificent and timeless feat. By the way, the set makes a great house-warming or birthday gift for Austen-lovers... -NN

The Movie Version of P&P by Which All Others are Measured
The truest, best version of Pride and Prejudice put on film to date. Do not bother to watch any other version, because they will disappoint. A true lover of Jane Austen will be the complete set and watch every second of it with delight and happiness. Of course, there were a few things left out, but the 6 hours make it more true to the original source than some 2-hour movie. The characters are perfectly cast, Jennifer Ehle the perfect combination of sweet and tart; Colin Firth being properly forbidding, but still handsome and desirable; you couldn't find a better Mr. or Mrs. Bennet, so no other actors need try. Gorgeous sets, beautiful cast, wonderful script. If you love the book, you will love this movie!

I completely understand that P&P is generally seen as being an excellent representation of Jane Austins novels, but when I was forced to watch it with my g/f, I couldn't stay awake. There are many subtle plots that a decent bloke simply can't...

I completely understand that P&P is generally seen as being an excellent representation of Jane Austins novels, but when I was forced to watch it with my g/f, I couldn't stay awake. There are many subtle plots that a decent bloke simply can't follow. Worst of all, nothing blows up besides the relationships between people. I only suggest watching this if you're into serious drama.

A great film about relations in a couple. It's romantic and stylish. Social differences don't stop this couple from falling in love. A witty period film.
