The first season of Battlestar Galactica is one of those rare shows that raises the bar and completely changes the landscape. I don't consider this TV, but rather great content in the vein of The Illiad, Star Wars (the first two at least), Star Trek, or the Fellowship of the Ring. Incredible characters in harrowing times constructed of a great cast, phenomenal direction, incredible effects, and spectacular cinematography. The series uses the vehicle of sci-fi to tell a classic tale of people in an impossible situation and their work together and against eachother to deal and survive in the face of this challenge. Set out on your own journey, watch the space around you, trust your friends, search for your enemies, suffer the dwindling number of survivors, and discover yourself and what it means to be human.

I was instantly hooked on this sci fi series. There's a wide variety of characters, good action, and an ever changing plot. This series will definitely keep you guessing.

I never saw the original Battlestar Galactica series, so I can't really compare this version to it. I do know that the original series resembled a cheap Star Wars knock-off. The new BSG is clearly not cheap, but if I had to compare it to other...

I never saw the original Battlestar Galactica series, so I can't really compare this version to it. I do know that the original series resembled a cheap Star Wars knock-off. The new BSG is clearly not cheap, but if I had to compare it to other Sci-fi franchises, I'd say it was Star Trek meets The Terminator with a little bit of Firefly thrown in. With only this 3-hour miniseries to go on so far, I can't honestly say that BSG is as good as those other series yet, but it does have a lot going for it. As with Firefly, the storyline is clever and highly compelling, the production values are as good as a movie's, and the acting is solid. Where it falls way short of Firefly (and Star Trek, for that matter) is in the dialogue and characters. I didn't particularly like any of the characters in BSG, and some (Starbuck, Apollo, Gaius) were just downright irritating. I've heard, though, that they get considerably more tolerable as the show progresses, and thankfully, the miniseries piqued my curiosity enough that I'm willing to find that out for myself.

If you've seen the mini-series, you have to see the show. It takes off right where the mini ended and doesn't stop. Full throttle ahead till the explosive season finaly. And what a finaly. You know definitley that a 2nd season has to happen or...

You know definitley that a 2nd season has to happen or someone will be very upset. Rent it now! Then go buy season 1 on dvd.
