I love this series, and I'm glad I found it here. I find that nothing relaxes me like a good ole Brit-com. Judi Dench is fabulous in this series. Give it a try if you haven't seen it. 5 Stars for sure. Read and rate it

Someone in another review said that those under 40 might not relate to this show. I simply had to refute this! I'm 20 now and I've loved As Time Goes By since I was about 14. I liked it first because I was (am) a huge Anglophile, and continued liking it because a) I'm a hopeless romantic ('a dying breed') and b) it's just a great show. I don't just relate to the younger characters, either. Judy and Sandy and Alistair are wonderful, Jean and Lionel are my favorite characters (mostly Lionel; Jean tends to get on my nerves), as are Rocky & Madge. ALL the characters are simply delightful. Quirky, funny, yet entirely realistic and sympathetic. My only complaint is that every single American character is hopelessly stupid (a phenomenon frequently found in British productions...wonder why), but other than that the characters are part of what makes the show so fantastic. Hilarious characters like Mrs. Bale and Penny & Steven add even more color to the cast. The acting is great, though Judi Dench & Geoffrey Palmer are the only really big-name presences. These two perform no less brilliantly than expected, but the rest of the cast is equally talented. This one of the nice things with series, unlike some (such as 'Are You Being Served?'), the entire cast is present for the full 9 seasons. The plot of course is lovely. Especially if you're a diehard romantic like me. Lovers separated by a twist of fate and reunited 40--excuse me, 38--years later...how much better can you get? Over this basic premise there are numerous hilarious twists and turns and confusion (quite often caused by Jean and her obsessiveness). I own series 1 & 2 (though these are mostly just groundwork for the real story) and I think I'm going to have to go watch it now...it's been a while.
