Second only to The Simpsons as the smartest and funniest sitcom of all time. If only Arrested Development could have had half the longevity that The Simpsons have enjoyed. Heck, I'd have settled for one third the longevity. At least by only lasting three (well, two and a half) seasons on the air, no one could say this show ever got stale. It left us wanting more, like countless other brilliant Fox shows cancelled before their time. Unlike those other shows, however, AD actually won a well-deserved best comedy series emmy before getting the ax. Everything about this show was great, from the perfect ensemble cast with nary a weak link, to the rapid-fire story-telling, to the brilliantly multi-layered humor, to the quirky direction style, to the numerous subtle callbacks, callforwards, and pop-culture references to reward the attentive viewer. Sadly, what made this show great may also be what killed it in the ratings, as its fast-paced, self-referential style was not likely to appeal to the average casual viewer. That kind of style might work for serial dramas, like Lost and 24, but not for half-hour comedies, which I guess are strictly for the ADD (not to be confused with AD) crowd.

One of the best comedies on television today. It's a shame that the idiots at FOX can't see that they cancelled a gem.

Maybe the funniest show to ever be allowed onto network television. Pushes the boundaries of what is funny and allows the characters to really define themselves. Maybe I just have a thing for series that are cancelled too soon, but now I get the pleasure of spotting all the actors in new and amazing movies. Prison, dating older women, jail, loving your cousin, drunk driving! Are you laughing yet? You will be.

It's so refreshing to see a show where you like every character for the different things they bring to the story. Arrested Development is written so smartly and at such a fast pace that it reminds me of Sports Night.
Then there's the added element of the novel storytelling method that periodically calls attention to itself by way of the narrator, who by the way is Ron Howard.
I only wish there was more of this show to watch. It's great fun and it will make you thankful to have YOUR family rather than this one (it does this without making you cringe all the time, too).
