Summary of American Family
Director Gregory Nava (EL NORTE) created this landmark series, the first Latino drama to air on American television. The program follows the Gonzales family as the adult siblings try to move their parents from East Los Angeles to a more suburban Los Angeles locale. This premise allows issues such as the generation gap and racial identity to develop through diverse storytelling ranging from raw human drama to magical realism. The talented cast includes Edward James Olmos, Sonia Braga, Esai Morales, and Raquel Welch, who had never previously been cast a Latino, despite her heritage.
