Profile of Ally McBeal
The mood of Ally McBeal is clever, offbeat, and feel good. The plot centers around thirtysomething life, being single, and legal issues. It is a drama and comedy TV show. Stylistically, Ally McBeal stars a strong female character, stars an ensemble cast, and is talky. It takes place, at least partly, in an office. The setting is Massachusetts. Ally McBeal happens in the 1990s and in contemporary times. The musical score is R&B and pop. The TV show is known for being a hit series, a Golden Globe winner, and an Emmy winner. Ally McBeal is especially suggested for a girls' night.
Summary of Ally McBeal
The show that introduced to the world the joined-workplace-toilette-rooms. An original take on law firms dramas, Ally McBeal succeeded thanks to its surreal and humorous attitude, mixed with a light chick flick style. Set in an Eccentric Law firm, the show focuses on Ally (Calista Flockhart), a thirtysomething and still single feminist lawyer, and on her quirky colleagues. It's the workplace relations and Ally's personal (lack of) love life that drive the show, rather than the legal cases the firm handles, although the later tend to be not less quirky than the lawyers who handle them. Ally lasted 5 seasons, and besides the toilettes' scenes, it's memorable for Ally's conversations with an Imaginary baby, and for Richard Fish (Greg Germann), the office founder's total lack of tact and political correctness. Also noted for their good performances are Peter MacNicol as John Cage, the weird office co-founder who's obsessed with absurd Gadgets, and Lucy Liu as Ling Woo, Fish's anti-social hated Girlfriend, in a star making performance.
