Worth a watch but not a second one
It won't go on my shelves but it was a good way to kill time at 2 a.m. when I woke up and couldn't sleep. Lots of action. The lines were under the ok category. Delivery? Wooden. It's no where near Jame Bond. It's the difference between a pulp magazine and a glossy but each have their place. The only thing I found slightly disturbing was I could swear I saw Vin Diesel's biceps jiggle and all bodybuilders know if it jiggles its fat. Nah. It's 3 a.m. Everything jiggles at 3 a.m. on a Friday night.

While the action scenes are better and more varied than the Fast and Furious films, they're not executed anywhere near the level of the Bond films that XXX pretends to blow away. The supporting cast looks good, but they aren't given any dimension....

The supporting cast looks good, but they aren't given any dimension. So the whole ordeal is utterly brainless and loud, but what did you expect?

It wants you to say "Man that movie is SOOOOO much cooler than any Bond film". It can't touch a Bond film. XXX wants you to know how cool it is. The hero won't "sell out" yet his associates talk about pre sales...

Here is where this movie fails...
It wants you to say "Man that movie is SOOOOO much cooler than any Bond film". It can't touch a Bond film. XXX wants you to know how cool it is. The hero won't "sell out" yet his associates talk about pre sales while he watches himself on a flat screen plasma tv. It is absurd, yet so were most Bond films. The difference? Bond was cool in it's absurdness. You know when you are watching Bond that he is cool. However, when you watch XXX THEY tell you how cool Xander is. He's so cool he has a half pipe in his loft apartment. He's so cool he can figure out he's being set up in a mock diner after being knocked out. He's so cool that he screams, "I live for this shi..." when jumping off a plane. Please, if you are cool, you are cool. You don't need to tell anyone that you're cool.

This movie is not an answer to Bond! This movie tries so hard to be an anti 007, but it takes nearly every element of the Bond series and uses it! The "XxX girl" the Q-like weapons/vehicles geek and the blow up the world villain.
And is it so much...

And is it so much to ask to put a bit more sexuality in this movie? If you're trying to beat bond, give us something more!
To have a big dumb guy saving the world is a change, but whoever wrote the script needs to stray from the tired spy hero formula to impress me.
And to add to all of this, there is a XxX sequel in the works!

I am a bit of sucker for action but even I hit my limit here. The villains were not interesting but instead moronic. Vin Diesel makes a pretty good action star but he needs to do more conventional action and less snowboarding. This movie was trying too hard to reinvent the secret agent genre but adding some X-Games events and dressing everyone in baggy clothes isn't any more creative or interesting.

OK - where is it written that being intelligent means you can't enjoy an action movie? This movie was a great high-octane blast and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It was as plausible as any James Bond movie I've seen with somewhat less misogyny and I thought Vin Diesel played an excellent role as an unlikely & reluctant hero. Samuel L Jackson put in a great performance (as per usual) - a shame that he had such a small part in this one. As for the other criticisms I've read in reviews, who looks for realism in movies like this? Chill out, suspend belief and enjoy, whatever your IQ...

When all you need is entertainment
A fast, stylish and exciting Action movie with Vin Diesel as the lead. If you like the Mission impossible movies and the James Bond movies, this is a movie you will enjoy for sure.
