A good social documentary should educate you and make you angry. Who Killed the Electric Car does both in spades. Parts of the film take the form of a homicide investigation with the goal of finding the culprit for the death of the electric vehicle. The filmmakers collect a group of suspects, ranging from consumers all the way to the federal government, and they submit compelling evidence for each case. The fact that this was made a few years before the recent GM bust makes this doc all the more relevant and, frankly, saddening. If GM had the foresight to continue production on a clearly popular model, instead of focusing their resources on gas-guzzling SUVs and Hummers, they likely wouldn't be in the situation they are in now. (Ironically, GM's best hope now is in their new hybrid vehicle, the Chevy Volt) The film left me angry--and for good reason. It shines an unfavorable light on our broken democracy: lobbyists, the government in bed with oil companies, and monopolistic practices allowed to continue because of greedy politicians. This film successfully shows where we've been with EV technology in order to understand where we can still go with it.

I sometimes wonder because the oil companies-you know(BigTexen)& his croneys & these government dictators need to get a life and let us live our life and drive what ever car we choose to because I am going to anyway, even if I have to goto another country to buy one and bring it back to the USA. I agree with the other commenter (Raf in L.A.)he was totaly right about all of it. I like this movie because it told the truth about the snakes that run our country and the greedy buisness men that snake there way to the top by doing dirty crap & they will all probably leave this earth choking on a dollar because they worship money like it is there GOD & it is not. I give this movie 5 stars for being so imformative.

Enjoyed this very much. It sets itself up to be valid beyond the moment of its release, but at the expense of specific calls to action. It could have done without some of the protest footage, which grew redundant in the latter third of the movie.

What a shame, we have all the tools, in fact we've had them since the beginning of cars to make electric cars. What makes this so bad, is that they killed great cars, that were perfectly great shape, but it backfired. I think we all need to look...

What a shame, we have all the tools, in fact we've had them since the beginning of cars to make electric cars. What makes this so bad, is that they killed great cars, that were perfectly great shape, but it backfired. I think we all need to look into smart cars, zap cars and the other alternatives out there, this movie has with everything else going on, convinced me we need a change!
