Summary of Way I Spent the End of the World

Set in Bucharest during the final year of Ceausescu's dictatorship, this lighthearted drama offers a warm look at the life of one family in Romania. A teenage girl, Eva, accidentally breaks a bust of Ceausescu at school. For her "crime" against the nation, she is relocated to a reformatory where, along with a boy named Andrei, she makes plans to escape Romania for good. Meanwhile, Eva's seven-year-old brother, Lalalilu, decides that his sister's exile is all Ceausescu's fault and, with the help of some schoolyard buddies, sets out to assassinate the dictator.

Four stars. A very interesting look into what "the end of the world" (great title when you live in a totally isolated small authoritarian country--its own world) meant to the people of Rumania when the dictatorship was overthrown....
