This movie should have had me crying thoughout. You love horses like me and get all full of tears on those Sunday afternoon dog movies? Well, nothing happens here! If you are expecting war scenes like "private ryan" though you will be disappointed. Historical accuracy like "band of brothers" not really applicable. Great characters like "e.t" or some other great storytelling from the movie meister are also lacking. The film is predictable, over stylized and well...almost boring.
Must repeat that I am a great fan of the man; can't really think of any of his movies that I have missed or even not liked a lot. But this one is no "black stallion". He is either losing his edge or just didn't get into the project enough.
Scenes like the one where the English and German soldier meet to help the horse should have been uplifting but they end up unconvincing, almost ridiculous.
Will slap on an episode of "the pacific" to recover from this...

I tried to stay cynical about this movie that actually deals with a love story between a young man and a horse, but I just couldn't. I had to work hard in order to keep my eyes dry. It's kind of strange in the sense that it very much feels like a family oriented movie, despite scenes of soldiers being executed and horses being shot in the head. Maybe Spielberg had in mind something like an unlikely combination between E.T and Private Ryan...Anyways, despite all that War Horse is a moving film that manages to be nostalgic and even a bit uplifting.

A classic Spielberg & Dreamworks movie, which can't be bad. Captivating and very touching & humane, this movie has all the right ingredients and is a delight to watch and get caught in.
