I was dying to see the impact this movie might have- maybe a Mrs. Smith as a cougar a few years down the road. Not so much, though it was a macho fantasy with lots of shooting and killing and corruption. Though, the ending was kind of Fight Club. Interpret that as you will.

Terrible dialog, awful acting, and a very poorly written plot make this the worst sci-fi movie I've seen in a long time. Pure garbage. (And, I really LIKE sci-fi movies!)

I found it adequate entertainment but certainly nothing impressive. Like Timur's Day Watch, it's big on action, absurd effects, human capabilities and short on coherent story or depth. It's not that I so much disliked the movie it's more that I expected a little more depth into the weaver history or any characters. McAvoy starts out as a completely irritating character and eventually becomes interesting. Jolie is present and attractive, but has hardly any dialogue. Freeman is there as well, but underutilized. The effects are excellent.

I was alternately thrilled, amazed, impressed, awed and amused. Never underestimate the need for a sense of fun in these types of films. As a middle aged movie fan who often feels he's seen it all before, this one packed more than a few flashes of originality and visual audacity that I hadn't seen before. The cast is particularly strong, the writing fits the genre and and visuals are great to look at which is exactly the point.
Sit back (strap in)and enjoy the diversion from reality.
