This film is a remake of Spanish film 'Abre los ojos' (Open Your Eyes). The original movie is much better. Compared to the original, in Vanilla sky the narration is too simplified, losing part of the beauty of the story. Also, Cameron's acting is a lot worse than usual, and can't render dramatic scenes as good as corresponding actress(now I don't remember who was) has done in the original movie. So I think there are no reasons to watch this movie, watch 'Open Your Eyes' instead.

Bizarre is a good word to describe this movie. Most of the other reviewers said that they liked it better after watching it a few more times, so maybe I need to see it more than once too. At this point I can't really say that I LIKED it, but I can't really say that I DIDN'T like it, either. All I can say is that it was strange, weird bizarre. It certainly did keep me in suspense, wondering what in the world was going on. But mostly I would have to say that it was surrealistic; it made me think of a painting by Picasso or Dali. In a way, it asks the question: Which is preferable, the dream world or reality? Given a choice, which world would you prefer?

I watched this with no expectations (never even heard about it or who was in it). The movie held your attention throughout by using a method which I have seen done much better by independant films. Basically you are suppose to follow cruise as he tries to figure out what is going on. It shows promise despite its VERY slow feel and things never really connect with other which causes it to feel like a cookie cutter film (in a very bad way). By the end of the movie it has become far too repetitive (they repeat the same idea so much that you begin to not care what happens) and some sex scenes which were overdone & not needed. The end left me saying one thing, "Okay, that was stupid. Nothing happened!" Promising, but NOT thoughtful. It makes no real point at all just goes in circles. It is about as thoughtful as being on drugs. No point, just pointless weirdness. Go rent Donny Darko if you want something truely strange/thoughtful and well done.

I started this movie expecting to hate it. I had heard so many people and critics say it was overly confusing and unoriginal that I had made my mind up early on. However, anyone who was confused either left the movie early or was too drunk to understand the english language when EVERYTHING IS EXPLAINED WORD FOR WORD!!! How is that confusing???? I felt like this movie was artistic and haunting at the same time. This movie is like a good EYES WIDE SHUT. If you like Tom Cruise and Cameron Crowe get this one. If you don't like to think when watching movies skip it...that means you frat boys.

I wouldn't call this a boring movie, however I would say it lacks (IMO) an ending to make you feel rewarded for your time watching. Story about a rich kid (Cruise does a good job, how can he not at this point) that thrives on sex appeal and his looks, suddenly loses it all with a turn of events. The story takes you on a trip from that point that will make you wonder what is real and what is not. It is however so complex that is becomes confusing and strange. The ending gives you the rug pull and makes it all more clear what's going on, but I was so disconnected from the characters at that point I just went "ahh, yup there you have it" when it was all done. It left me unrewarded, like A.I. did in its ending. I'd recommend you watch it, however I'd also recommend you have a backup movie in the event you can't make it through this.

If you like movies with plots that you know where it's going in the first 20 minutes, then this one isn't for you! Movies that make you wonder what's coming next throughout the entire movie is like a roller coaster ride to me. That's what Vanilla Sky is like - every time I thought I had it figured out, something happened that completely blew my theory. I didn't completely understand what was happening until the last 20 minutes or so. Fun film!

Interesting unique film.
This movie is very interesting, full of mind games and mystery. It comments on our reality and is a very thoughtful movie, great script and amazing performances. Not to be missed.
