scary
I saw this movie about a year after it came out and it scared me senseless. The whole time I was thinking "this could actually happen"

Untraceable's is just a movie for those that like all the bloody scenes. Not really a scary movie at all. More disturbing than anything.

I love a smart, well-plotted thriller, and this one fits the bill. Its basic plot path and resolution are rather predictable, but the punch here is in the details, which are extraordinary. Quite graphic violence too, enough that I literally covered my eyes a few times (yeah, I'm a weenie), but it was an essential part of the innovative and gripping story rather than an end in itself. Very good performances--Diane Lane was excellent, as I've come to expect, but Colin Hanks' portrayal of her standout sidekick earned him a spot on my ones-to-watch-list. The film also provokes more thought than is comfortable about our fascination with the macabre and how internet anonymity encourages latent schadenfreude (literally, "harm-joy") to morph into a monstrosity of mob mentality.

I need to clear something up. This is not "a new Silence of the Lambs", which i have read in a few reviews, not specifically on this site. It seems that oversights such as a positive review of a bad movie and faulty comparisons of dreck to classic cinema have caused me to be more vocally active recently.
If that was too much of a mouthful, Im pissed about the quality of entertainment that we are being forced to appreciate. If the quality of what we presented with keeps declining, obviously we will lower our standards enough to appreciate anything.
Such is the case with UNTRACEABLE.
The state of the thriller, or in this case, the "techno-thriller cum psuedo-torture-porn" has declined to such a point that i have witnessed decent and somewhat intelligent people accepting movies like this as quality entertainment.
Now, i have been harsh in my judgement only becase the creators bring it upon themselves to be the example. They admit, ON THE DVD mind you, that they had no idea what they were doing when it came to the technical aspect of this movie. Im not one to jump to conclusions, but if neither the producer or the director had ANY knowledge or experience with the subject matter, what is the point of making the movie. Why would you send a general into war if he had never seen a gun? Why would you hire a blind man to help you see?
This is only the first of many offenses that pile up over the course of the movie. Such as the official "death of torture porn", in which you are allowed to witness what it looks like when some 45 year old "movie-makers" make torture porn even more cliche than it had made itself over the past few years.
Its offends my intelligence as someone who likes movies. If you arent going to respect us enough to even understand the subject, why should we ever pay money to see something that you have made in the future.
Maybe if i cool down i'll finish this and clean it up, but as it stands now im done ranting.

Untraceable was boring and unexciting, sort of like reading the back of the cereal box in the morning for lack of anything better to do. There were not enough shades of gray in the plot to keep you excited, nothing was left for the viewer to guess upon. Considering how generic the writing was I would give the actors credit for not falling asleep while producing this film. There are a few gratuitous gore scenes, but even those were expected and not very thrilling. If you have nothing to do for a rainy afternoon its better then nothing, though I'd rather have read a good book.

Early in the movie, I was intrigued by the premise - someone having a live torture website that visitors could watch and comment on. It maintained a creepy and uneasy feeling throughout most of the film, until they jumped the shark and show you the villain's face. I think it would have been better if they had not revealed who the bad guy/girl was until the very end. Aside from that, the gore is a little over-the-top, and you'll be wondering why they are showing it to you, because the reasoning seems to only be that they wanted to show off their FX abilities. Lastly, the FBI Cyber crimes team - as depicted in Untraceable - is a gang of bumbling idiots with the computer knowledge of toddlers. I don't buy their depiction, I think the FBI is a lot smarter than shown here. All in all, a decent movie, not all that thrilling because of the villian being shown way too early, but it's tense - and it really makes you feel uneasy about going online.

apparently it's hard to creat good horror/tense movies this days. basically, the horror in this one is based on blood and experiments in humans (not so scary as it sounds. not at all), the tense doesn't even exist and there's nothing about it that...
