I had heard a lot of negative comments on this, but after watching it I was entertained. I did enjoy the premise and the interchange between the two races. I liked Kate Beckinsale's character and how strong it was, not your typical wimpy helpless...

I had heard a lot of negative comments on this, but after watching it I was entertained. I did enjoy the premise and the interchange between the two races. I liked Kate Beckinsale's character and how strong it was, not your typical wimpy helpless woman situation. There were a few action scenes that really were quite good, many at the beginning of the film. However, I found the screenplay a bit predictable and the double-cross plot very cliched. In addition, the story completely treats the vampires as if they're helpless victims running around with pistols loaded with silver. Hello, do the vampires do anything - how have they lived for centuries.. no blood drinking, etc. I also think the budget affected their ability to get decent special effects because I found most of the monster scenes not up to par. Yes, it's decent, but you always compare them to what you know can be done or have seen before. If you're up for a dark action movie, it's not bad. There is a sequel and prequel in the works now too, so there's more-a-coming.

I like most people had high hopes based upon the trailer and the hype. It wasn't even worth the discounted showing. For those who have any preconceived notions of vampires and werewolves (likens) , check them at the door and it might be somewhat...

I like most people had high hopes based upon the trailer and the hype. It wasn't even worth the discounted showing. For those who have any preconceived notions of vampires and werewolves (likens) , check them at the door and it might be somewhat enjoyable. I will say no more on that subject.
The movie tale itself had potential, and several times within the movie it seemed like it might redeem itself. But alas no. Aside from subtle lore problems/loopholes, there is the less great acting in the movie. Many actors/characters seem to have just memorized their lines before walking on set (i.e. the doctor, etc.) On a positive note, the main character was well portrayed and I look forward to seeing more from this actress.
There is the additional issues with choppy CGI animation during the mutations. The animation people needed to have studied the Matrix, American Werewolf in London or Blade, a little more, to learn how to work out the edits.
All in all if you have nothing better to do and have free tickets, go see it. Otherwise wait for rental or better yet cable.

I rented this not knowing what to expect. All I knew was that Kate Beckinsale was in it and that reason enough. That being said I enjoyed the movie for what it was -- some good action! The movie seemed to lack a little depth. I wanted to see more character development but you can't get everything. Be sure to watch this in a DARK room with some good surround sound.
