Twilight, 2008

I'm sorry, I really am. I know that lots of people love this movie, but it was... it was just plain awful. And it's completely ruined a generation of people for what they now expect vampires to be. The romance was eh, Kristen Stewart can't act her way out of a paper bag, to say the least, and she always looked constipated when she was trying to be dramatic. The pauses between Bella and Edward that were meant to be tense and sexually charged just felt like they'd forgotten their lines, and as 'great' as their chemistry was, they were both so utterly awkward. And Jasper and Alice were the only likable characters that I found. Two main points to illustrate the idiocy of this movie in the end: ~ They had to play baseball during a thunderstorm as to not alert the town to the fact that when they hit a ball it sounded like a thunderclap, for if they did, then something oh-so-terrible would happen. Physics disagrees with this, and common sense disagrees with this. Not to mention the use of Muse, who everyone I came in contact with suddenly thought was a new band. ~ THEY SPARKLE. God, it's just... bloody horrible. People- stop with the sparkly body glitter and drinking your menstrual blood (this actually happens) and claiming to be a vampire. The book? Actually not that bad a read, if only for some suspension of disbelief for the sparkling thing, and that only felt like artistic license, rather than the mutilation of a beloved creature into whiny little angsty teenagers, even though they're well over 100. There aren't words to describe what this franchise has done to vampires, and not in a good way.
