Humanity puts us above traditional, religious, moral and gender standards
If you want a movie about transexual's problems with acceptance or tough choices, watch a different one. Transexualism is not the main point of Transamerica. It's a wonderful movie about humanity, humanity that puts us above traditional, religious, moral and gender standards. My favourite quote is "You think that transexual cannot be a christian?". Would give this movie 10/10 if it wasn't exploiting so much cliches of American road movies and had fewer twists similar to Latin American telenovelas.

It would have made the movie a little bit more believable. I was just expecting more humor out of this than drama i guess. This movie reminded me of the movie "normal" so if you really enjoyed transamerica rent normal.

It wasn't a bad film so much as a boring one.

10/10Must See
The movie is great. Acting is absolutely fabulous. One learns a lot about a person's life and the happiness, sadness and moments of triumph as we travel through the life of an individual. Bree is a character who can be anyone on the street as each individual can be complex in their own ways. She is very simple outside and thus deseves respect. Kevin Zegers, Finnula Flannagan, Burt Young and Elisabeth Pena are great and so is Graham Greene as Calvin. Felicity Huffman is excellent as Sabrina Osbourne and deserves the Oscar. Wonder how she didn't win it. Bree is a person one can learn a lot from.

I was fully expecting this to be preachy and pretentious and something of an absurd 'issue film'. Instead, it's just a great drama about troubled people, their gender issues and problems being only a part of the whole. Huffman is just amazing; her ability to portray this character who is going through such turmoil but is also a human being with the normal internal debates and quandadies outside of her gender identification issues is one of the best performances in recent memory, and perhaps of all time. Not to be missed.

8/10Great
At one point in the movie "Knocked Up" one of the characters says "Ever since I saw Transamerica, I can't get Felicity Huffman out of my head." This statement is so true. I was concerned about it being yet another movie where a woman acts like a man acting like a woman, but this film was way more than that. Huffman is wonderful in this movie. She inhabits Bree effortlessly. She's a whole different person at the end of the movie (literally and figuratively) and it's so much fun to watch her blossom. I realy think the person she is at the end of movie has more to do with her transformation on the road trip than her "trans"formation due to her surgery choices. Definitely a journey worth taking.
