Traitor, 2008

This movie was not at all what I expected, but it surprised me in a good way. Based on the previews I thought it would be a full out action movie, possibly doused with wittiness and explosions that make audiences want to cheer. Instead Traitor is a very intelligent exploration of terrorist attacks that doesn't allow us to sympathize with people who abuse a religion to accomplish evil, nor does it uphold the United States as the pillar of all good and holiness. For the most part a very level film and one that touches on everything from the legitimacy of torture as an interrogation technique, job discrimination, religious beliefs and more. Also pretty good at breaking down stereotypes and making the audience care about some people we know we shouldn't care about. Cinematography for the most part was very natural (which fit the film well, and makes night scenes easier to, oh, I don't know, see?) but would occasionally lapse into under-saturated almost choppy images, which was obnoxious and didn't seem to do anything for the story. Great acting, intelligent script, good story, all around a really solid, good film. I would suggest seeing it to anyone.
