The time spent reading the book will feel shorter than watching the movie
Having just finished the book I decided to see how the movie adaptation compared. Results: Horrible. They often say the book is better than the movie, and that is usually true, but not to such a degree. Although having a good cast, the acting was mediocre at best, the effects were boring and the storyline ignored several key details and events in the book. This is sloppily thrown together and should not have made it to theaters. Lesson learned from this movie? Don't read the book first, always watch the movie, then be pleasantly surprised by the book..

This movie isn't as bad as all the reviews, it's worse. Having read the book, it's an even further insult to have watched this. So many problems, where to begin; first - they've picked morsels from the novel to create a disjointed movie that really makes no sense nor do you care. The acting is miserable, yes I agree with another reviewer, Paul Walker was just abysmal. Not once did I believe his role. Without the ability to "get" into the movie, I then stared noticing thing you shouldn't, such as the sets look like - well, sets. The castle and villages all look fake, everyone's costumes are brand new and shiny, everyone looks bored acting. The only redeeming quality was Gerard Butler as Andre Marek (and actually Anna Friel in her small part), his performance was wasted in this mess of a movie.. should have gone straight to DVD.
