I love Gilliam's movies (most of them, anyway), but not this one. Yes, there's grace, courage, and hope to be found here -- if you can endure two hours of ever-increasing abuse and ugliness (it gets worse, not better, as the movie grinds on). The best thing I can say about Tideland is that it's not as bad as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (which I absolutely detested). This film could have -- and should have -- been a lot better. Come on, Terry, you can do better than this.

Oh dear lord....well this movie was not boring and I watched the whole thing. I was close to giving it 2 stars but I liked it to a point. It was original and Jodelle Ferland has to be one of the best kid actors. View this at your own risk....it was good idea that Mr. Gilliam gave his own personal warning even before the film began. I thought it was brilliant how Jeff Bridges was in most of the film.....BUT in a certain state.

Tideland is like "Alice in Wonderland" meets "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". But with results not as entertaining as that might sound.
I wasn't grossed out by the disturbing imagery, and the little girl in the lead role is a fantastic actress, but this was a rather boring movie. I'm sorry, Cardinal Fang.

These images soon fade from the forefront of your attention as this spectacular, emotionally charged story takes hold of you.
