Profile of The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit
The mood of The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit is feel good, humorous, and offbeat. The plot centers around a child acting as an adult, being rich or poor, and a "fish out of water". It is a comedy and fantasy movie. The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit takes place, at least partly, in a store. It is adapted from a play. It is especially suggested for a date night and a family outing.
Summary of The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit
Gomez (Joe Mantegna) is a con man roughing out a living in East Los Angeles. One day he hears of a local clothing store selling a very handsome and very special white suit for $100. Gomez wants the suit but can only afford it by pooling money together with four other men who also want the supposedly magical suit. The men are of diverse backgrounds and occupations, but all have found themselves far away from where they wanted to be in their lives. The magic suit, they hope, will make their dreams come true. The first night, each man gets an hour with the suit to do what he pleases. Good things happen, but soon the men grow suspicous of each other, with each one wanting the suit all to himself. The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit is a gentle story of discovering what is truly important in life. Departing from his usual sci-fi and horror projects, director Stuart Gordon brings a fresh and genuine sensitivity to the film. Mantegna heads up an excellent, enthusiastic cast that includes Edward James Olmos, Clifton Gonzalez, and Esai Morales. Ray Bradbury scripted this fantasy film from one of his own stories.
