The Street Fighter, 1974

Stageblood-soaked karate at its best. Sure, the plot is unspectacular, the dubbing can be laughable and the camerawork a bit iffy. But Sonny Chiba is a paradigm-shifting martial arts master. Chiba's fighting pays heed to the same rules and almost chivalrous code you see in more subdued martial arts films, but as a master, a palpable rage courses through him in every fight. He dismantles his opponents rather than just beating them, leading to some memorable, ahead-of-their-time kills. This film is well-worth watching just to see the unique action hero Chiba at his best.
