In depicting Iowa farmer Alvin Straight's odd tractor journey, director David Lynch at approaches the rural Midwest -- appropriately -- like an explorer landing on the moon: he pans across a backyard scene of an overweight neighbor arranging her morning sunbath and morning sunbath refreshments with an almost scientific curiosity. As we slowly meet townspeople, few who have escaped damage from life or time, the camera lingers lovingly over fields and roads to give this quiet comedy a lasting depth.

What do you get from mixing Disney with David Lynch? A film with a lot of heart minus the B.S. The Straight Story is probably the best Disney family film, a story of a man going to see his brother, and that's it. Don't expect surreal monstruosities...

What do you get from mixing Disney with David Lynch? A film with a lot of heart minus the B.S. The Straight Story is probably the best Disney family film, a story of a man going to see his brother, and that's it. Don't expect surreal monstruosities or mysterious atmospheres. Just sit back and enjoy Richard Fansworth's great acting as the humble, stubborn, lovable old man.

Not a typical road movie.
This is a rather quiet film that might not fit everybody. It requires patience and concentration. Also, I believe not everyone can identify with the main character. I liked the different tastes of Americana that the film presents. The building...

Not a typical road movie.
This is a rather quiet film that might not fit everybody. It requires patience and concentration. Also, I believe not everyone can identify with the main character. I liked the different tastes of Americana that the film presents. The building anticipation for the main character to reach his destination makes the ending emotional. In my opinion, this is a beautiful film with a beautiful story.
