The stoning scene in the film seems to have a very "love it or hate it" vibe (after all, a film about women's rights set in Iran is bound to be controversial by its very nature). Some have complained that it was too drawn out, but I personally felt that the length of the lead-up to the stoning added to the tension, and the graphic nature of the stoning itself was necessary in order to force the viewer to confront the horrific nature of this barbaric act. Artistic discretion shots just wouldn't have cut it.
I don't want to give too much away, but there were a number of elements -- one in particular, which relates to a conversation Soraya and her aunt have right before the stoning -- that I felt were quite brilliant. The scene isn't just blood and gore, it also contains psychological aspects. The combination of the two makes it all the more tragic and ugly, a disturbing insight into the darker parts of human nature.
That being said, this is merely my opinion -- for some people, the scene might not be as effective as it was for more. As I said, it's a polarizing scene, and film.
Unpolished and a bit heavy-handed, but not without merit.
While the movie does resort to several overused cliches, amateurism and melodrama that can make it frustrating to watch in some parts, the overall film is still worth watching. Please note that, as another viewer mentioned, this film should NOT be...

While the movie does resort to several overused cliches, amateurism and melodrama that can make it frustrating to watch in some parts, the overall film is still worth watching. Please note that, as another viewer mentioned, this film should NOT be taken or used as an attack on Muslims; the protagonists in the film are also Muslims, and the antagonists are shown as cherry-picking parts of the Qur'an to use for their benefit. The true problem being addressed here is misogyny, which is an issue that all cultures deal with, regardless of the dominant religion.
Plot: Interesting, meaningful and attention grabbing, but not executed as well as it could have been. The message of the film is a bit heavy-handed, although it's a lot more forgivable when you consider the subject matter. The final scene in the film feels phony and tacked on, which might taint the movie for some viewers.
Characters: The main antagonist -- the woman's husband -- and, to a lesser extent, the other antagonists could have been developed better. Instead, they come across are a bit 2D, particularly the husband. The protagonists -- Soraya and her aunt -- have a lot more depth to them, which had me invested in their fates. The town's mayor and the man who is accused of having an affair with Soraya came across were also interesting characters, as were her children.
Acting: Pretty good. Becomes melodramatic at times, but they may be due to the script and director rather than the actors.
Overall, this is a good movie for those who can look past its faults and focus on the characters. It's hardly perfect, but for a low-budget flick, it's actually pretty decent.
