Not your average kids fantasy action movie. I normally watch all of them that come out because i literally have nothing better to do, so as you would expect i dont have high hopes for another random one that was based on an intellectual property ive never heard of.
Well wasnt i suprised with how much this movie kicked all the other kids movies' butts(apparently 4SSES is not allowed, but you just dont get the same punch out of butt...). Not a difficult job, but it was so much more fun and suspensful than all the other kids books turned movies. Not only was it actually exciting it was edgy and actually let the kids get involved and cause damage. There wasnt any censorship of the kids killing bad fantasy creatures, which is refreshing in a time where kids movies have the kids as an item to force the plot along rather than the person involved in the plot and its action.
Not only was it a fun movie that lasted only as long as it needed, it had some of the best cameos i have seen in a kids movie in a while. You can pick your own favorite, But i like Seth Rogen and Mrtin Short the most. I cant say more without giving spoilers.
Bottom line- This is a good movie regardless of having kids. Good actors, decent action for the genre and it doesnt set itself up for a sequel. I love when a movie doesnt set up a sequel, it means that you dont feel cheated...

I really hate having to do this, but this movie falls into the same category as so many other recent Fantasy family films. The characters SEE the CGI creatures in front of them, but they don't really acknowledge that what they are seeing is so...

I really hate having to do this, but this movie falls into the same category as so many other recent Fantasy family films. The characters SEE the CGI creatures in front of them, but they don't really acknowledge that what they are seeing is so insane that they might be going crazy themselves! Your computer animation can be stupendous, but if your characters are drawn onto a green screen background hastily, how is anyone supposed to care about what they are seeing? I fully embrace digital graphics in film, but it's all too often that these movies get into a rut where that is all they can do (Doesn't anyone miss animatronics for a more lifelike feel that CG has yet to match?). Mary-Louise, I love you in Weeds, but you are so wooden and unmoved in this film, that no one would know that you were an accomplished actress - not to mention, where were you when your kids were being attacked by Goblins in this movie? This could have been better, I just can't think of any other way to spill it.

A family moves in to their uncle's old house. The children find a secret old book that belongs to his uncle. The book discovers a parallel world with all sorts of creature living in the forest. Turn out the book is very important to theme – especially to the bad… After reading the book they are starting to see those creatures. The twins and their sister go to a great extraordinary adventure. It's an exciting and interesting movie who ménage to combine our reality world with the fairies and creatures world around us.
