I understand the criticisms for this film, but it's better than most people think. Yes, it's basically an 87 minute long episode, but even Simpsons can be funny sometimes. It starts to lag a bit by the end, but this is still a really funny film.

About as good as you would expect a long form
Simpsons movie to be. Unfortunately, a Simpsons episode from 2007 and not the prime of the series.

Doh! You mean I have to write words here? Well OK then here it goes. Everyone knows I'm an idiot, they have known I'm an idiot for forever. No surprise then that daddy does something really stupid that makes everyone hate him. The best part of this story is I finally got to realize my lifelong dream, well at least this lifelong dream, not like all the others where I only messed things up. Now kids, where was I? Oh yeah, thank you all very much for going to the theater and wasting LOTS of money to see this film. Because it really helped pay for the mess I made. Those smarter then I am waited for this DVD thingie, cause then you can pause it and get lots and lots of meat snacks... Aaagggg... Meat Snacks... HOMER! What? Oh, yeah... And I don't blame you one bit if you wait to see this movie on TV, because commercials are really funny!

I'm just a casual fan of the Simpsons but I laughed more in this feature film than I have in other live action comdies. The Simpsons Movie is very well written and I can understand some giving it four stars. The film tapers off towards the end but that's mainly because the first hour is a blast and if you don't see the show hardly at all it really does not matter since this film stands alone and prior knowledge is not needed to enjoy this clever movie. With alot of attention going to SuperBad which I enjoyed this movie holds up to any comedy released in 07.

First things first. I have not religiously watched The Simpsons, but I know all of the characters well. Not being the biggest fan of the show, I went into the movie with an open mind. You'd think they'd try their hardest to convert non-fans with this movie, but they didn't quite try hard enough. The movie is a messy jumble of plot ideas and slapstick humor that never had me more than smiling. If this is supposed to be a comedy, it just doesn't work that well. Instead, it's about Homer screwing up things time and time again, and the family who has to put up with that. While mildly funny, it will only barely appeal to die-hard Simpsons fans more than non-fans. That is because it tries too hard to be ironic, and shows that the writers of the show are getting too old to keep up with modern comedy.

The big thing that disappointed me was that Mr. Burns was only in it for maybe 3 seconds. I figured he would be the villain in it. I mean on the show he's pretty much the most important and funniest character outside of the simpson family. oh well maybe next time.

Funny, but pound-for-pound, not as funny as an episode of the television show. But if it's not just funny you're looking for, there IS more here. This is a great STORY about the Simpsons, going deeper into their actual familty and characters than an average episode of the show could go. You'll come out loving the Simpsons more than before...just not necessarily with tears of laughter streaming down your face.

I'm glad I didn't pay to see this at the movie theater as I would have left feeling disappointed. I don't know whether I'll bother watching a sequel if one is made.
