"The Shining". It's not amazing; but it's not terrible either. I found it really slow-paced, but I guess that's what makes it effective. The suspense was good, and the film is VERY surreal. The acting is very good (can't go wrong with Jack...

Leaves something to be desired
Maybe reading the book first just ruined it for me. I was a well-established Stephen King fan by the time I was introduced to Kubrick, through A Clockwork Orange (which is one of my all time favourite films), and while I thoroughly enjoyed his other...

Must See
This is a movie that everyone has to see once in their life. With so many references and themes that surround the original idea of this classic horror film, it's impossible not to feel compelled to watch it. With it's quirky little kids to it's...

Classic horror and suspense film which set the standard for all horror movies that followed it. Using a terrifying story written by Stephen King and a creepy old hotel as the setting for director Stanley Kubrick makes for a frightening tale of...

It had been years since I last watched this. What I still liked this time around were the cinematography (all those memorable wide-angle shots) and the sets. This time around though, Nicholson was way over the top for me in terms...

The last thirty odd minutes do not save this utterly wooden movie from being laughable. Shelly Duvall's performance is Razzie worthy, but the long, drawn out bits of exposition, static camera, and stoicalness of Danny kills any narrative movement....

The story, in Kubrick's hands, is less of a ghost story than about one man's descent into homicidal insanity; and is less about the acting or the gestures than about the photography. The visuals are so well constructed, so effectively lit, and so...

One of the best thrillers that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Makes you look at the family getaway a little differently.

Stanley Kubrick's inspired version of the Stephen King novel, The Shining is perhaps the most effective psychological horror film ever. Truth be told, there's not a lot of bloodshed, there's not a lot of goreÂ…just Kubrick (along with...

Overrated
Although all the ingredients are good, I feel that this film is a bit overrated. For me this is not one of Kubrick's greatest. Still it's far better than most horror movies.

the best horror film ever
Stanley Kubrick's direction, Stephen King's writing and Jack Nicholson's acting: now that is a winning combination. This movie is so atmospheric and suspenseful, it sucks you in and carries you away. A few scenes here are unforgettable: the maze,...
