The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior, 2008

Now I love cheesy movies, and enjoy movies of this and many other genres, sometimes only for the cheese factor. So how did I like this one? Three words! Blah Hah Hah! Man what a cheese-fest this film was, I didn't look, but I wonder if it was a direct to video production? Probably, as they only had 6 weeks to complete it. Can anyone say "Sunday Afternoon Matin��e"? I knew you could! Don't get me wrong, for having a cast of absolute no namers, they did a pretty decent job, and the acting wasn't "too" bad, nor were the fight scenes (though I did have flashbacks to the days of Xena Warrior Princess ala Matrix during most). Two characters in particular Randy Couture (played the Evil King Sargon) was emotionless and cold, definitely B-Rate or lower acting abilities and Natalie Becker (played Astarte Queen of the Underworld) who needs IMO more lessons in elocution and (lets face it she was bad!) the practice or ability to emote/ express, though she was a beautiful woman. The leads Layla (Karen David) and Mathayus (Michael Copon) were more silly "eye candy" then anything else. Michael Copon does have a fair resemblance to "The Rock" (much younger) who played in The Scorpion King and Karen David can respectfully pass for a (I don't know if that was there plan but) much younger version of the Sorceress Cassandra (played by Kelly Hu) so casting might have had a "plan". Anyhow... I liked it! It wasn't anything new, it was just a silly barbarian style knockoff that was pretty to look at and had a couple funny one liners. If you go into it without expecting more, you might also enjoy it.
