It is a love story from a POV where reality and dreams clash. Though the general feeling of the movie is very fresh and original, the story itself is unrelatable. Almost all of the main character's problems revolve around the inability to differentiate between imagination and reality, something most people generally don't have a problem with.

Michel Gondry is an amazing director, we all think just like him but can quite bring that thinking out visually like he does. This show is definitely one to get lost in for a good cause!! i highly recommend it!

When a timid, overly sensitive dreamer and idealist develops a relationship with his perfect match at the wrong time, it throws both their lives into turmoil. As the line between his dreams and reality blur, the story is sometimes hard to fathom, but it is well worth the effort to untangle the threads of this bittersweet quasi-romance. Gondry excels in depicting this surreal tale through mastery of in-camera effects, including fantastic rear-screen projections. A very personal account of suffering and rejection. It's poignant, but not without some humor and wonder.

It didn't irritate me
I read a review on IMDB that suggested the main character is schizophrenic, and if that had been made *at all* clear in the film, I think I would have viewed it somewhat more sympathetically. As it was, I found it whimsical and entertaining, and the lead characters were likable enough to make the film enjoyable....but as the movie progressed, it just got weirder and weirder until the credits started rolling, and all I could say was: "Huh. Well, that was strange."

Just horrible. It's one of those romantic comedies where behavior that in normal society would have people screaming stalker is somehow supposed to be romantic. The main character wasn't sweet, he was creepy and obsessive. Not in a fun way, but in a disturbing one.
Some of the artistic effects were interesting, but really nothing too amazing. It had the air of a first year art student convinced of their own brilliance as they aped tired artistic trends.
Basically, imagine the most self obsessed hipster you know. Imagine what kind of movie she'd make if given a fairly high budget. This is her movie.
I might seem overly critical, but the failures are even more apparent when you consider the talent involved. These are, for the most part, people who have displayed actual talent and creativity in the past. They should have been able to create something far above this with the same basic concept.

Have to say that I was disapointed in this film. I did my best not to compare it to Eternal Sunshine since it was the same director but comparisons still happened. I love quirky and bizzare films and loved Eternal but this film just came across like a self indulgent art project of the director. The premiseis great and had alot to work with but in my opinion it just went flat. If your tempted to see this, just know going into it that it starts off slow and never gets going. The one scene that had given me hope (him slipping a note under the door while asleep) never went anywhere else. The worst movie...No but a big letdown.

I loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so I expected to enjoy this movie as well. Unfortunately, I found it to be mostly incoherent and lacking in a resolution at the end. It had some interesting moments but overall I just found it confusing...
