THE RUNAWAYS: Loved this movie: I enthusiastically indorse it. Watched it twice, then read the reviews. I agree with most that there is a lot missing, but if the other band members did not want to participate, their loss. Far as I am concerned Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart Nailed it. This is a 5*****STAR movie. IMHO

This film gets most things right, the cast is great, the directing is fine, the music is awesome. The problem is that the plot just isn't there. The story is based on real artists, so the writers were bound to the reality.
The first hour shows a good movie, that seems to be leading up to something great. But then cliche after cliche happens. Being bound by reality the writers didn't succeed in making an interesting or original plot. I assume this film was a tribute to Joan Jett and to The Runaways, because otherwise this script would probably never have been made into a movie.
If you are a fan of the music or are old enough to have seen them live "The Runaways" will probably entertain you, otherwise I wouldn't advice it. As I said, the film does most things right, but without the nostalgia for the music, there just isn't enough to keep it interesting.

"THE RUNAWAYS," a bio-pic about the audacious all-girl hard-rock/punk band from the late 1970s, is a big disappointment. For plot or story, the film offers a few imagistic scenes before -- voila! -- the band is formed. And the script gives the actors very little meat for their over-the-top emotions. As a result, we don't care at all about these people or the picture they're in. It was a relief when the film came to an end. And I'm a fan of The Runaways' music!

This film feels like a modern-day sex reversed adaptation to the great "The Doors" film. It is trying to give an overview of the band "The Runaways" while capturing the essence of the 70s. It is a nice coming of age film, it is a nice female film, and a nice period film, But nothing more than that. If you loved "The Doors" you should give it a try, but it shouldn't be on top of your wishlist.

Nostalgic…
Although it feels like the film could be based on every teenager in the 70s, and not a specific celebrity, it is still a wonderful coming of age film with a nostalgic feeling and great soundtrack.
