A minority view: This is a low-IQ, mocking sort of movie. The characters are stock hollywood and the producers seem only to be able to ridicule them, but not to invent, or even hint why the ridicule is appropriate. The pace is slow, and my kids lost interest after about forty-five minutes--rare for them. On the other hand, production values were good. The film obviously cost a lot of money to make. Its a shame those resources were largely wasted.

Should have watched it sooner.
All I can say is I can not believe it took me this long to watch this because it is a great film. Good action, lovely romance, and the script is so witty and humourous.

Amazing from start to finish
If all movies were made like this. Critics would have nothing to complain about. Well they are critics so they would complain. This did for action/ comedies to what Starwars did for scifi Genre. Redefined a theme, made it better, full bodied dialogs...

Redefined a theme, made it better, full bodied dialogs , whimsical humour. Classic one lines. Great action scenes and of course a happy ending. I am looking at you , couple kissing as the sunsets.
Must see.

The Princess Bride is, well, inconceivably great
Just like Grandpa says, The Princess Bride has everything. Great story, fantastic quotes, and some wonderfully funny bits (Billy Crystal is fabulous, as always). A great movie. In my opinion, the best movie ever!

I love it every day of my life
This movie practically defined humor for me. It prepared me for the classic humor of Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies that I started watching those a few years later. Maybe it wouldn't be as good if I saw it for the first time today. I've loved this movie from the first time I saw it. Sword fights. True love. The Pit of Despair. Is there a better sword fight in any movie ever than this one between Inigo and the Dread Pirate Roberts? Cary Elwes is at his sexiest. He was the first pirate I loved. Captain Sparrow, I'm sorry.

They play the bad guys who kidnap the princess. It's kind of boring at times, but I liked it overall. I think I prefer Stardust, a similar movie made many years later.

I must shamefully admit that I only saw this movie about a year ago. of course i heard a lot about it, as it is such a cult favorite. but when i hear too much about a film my expectations tend to be high and then i'm disappointed. i was afraid the same thing was gonna happen here, but to my surprise and delight i really enjoyed the film and i can understand why so many people love it. it's a truly fantastic fairytale and it manages to be both romantic and magical and a parody (of romantic and magical movies) all at the same time.
