If you are a fan of ghost movies and dramas, you will probably like this
although it was way too much over-acting and drama for what the movie needed, felt like i was watching some amature actors at a stage "TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THAT IS THE QUESTION!" with lots of tears and screaming following
only thing that saved this movie from me giving it a 2 or 3/10 was the ending, not to spoil anything i can say... predictable but good
if you have nothing else to do, watch it... however there are MANY better movies out there.. horror or drama...

Its been many a year sense a movie has affected me like this one. I use the word disturbing in the sense that it cut through my hard venered, sensory hardened
mind. It stayed with me like few movies do these days. Well paced & acted.

A pale Nicole Kidman shines in the quiet darkness of a house on Jersey Island in 1945, where her two children, photosensitive because of a rare skin condition, require that light be contained, "like water in a ship," by the closing of curtains and locking of doors. Having read reviews that mentioned enshrouding fog, whispering voices, and a piano that plays by itself, I worried Kidman's character would be something like Morticia from the Addams Family. Instead, director Alejandro Amenabar spins these well-worn elements into an elegant web. Amenabar also composed the spare, mournful music, which gives the movie its power, such as the haunting one-violin elegy that accompanies Mrs. Mills (Fionnula Flanagan) up the dark, narrow stairway to her servant's quarters.

Excellents script! Honest Acting! A complex plot so well shown. Comes in the league of the Sixth Sense. A must see for everyone. Nicole Kidman is excellent and is a good example of a versatile actress.

I enjoyed watching this at the cinema and later on DVD, even though I already knew the twist at the end. It's well made (even the kids are not so annoying) and Nicole Kidman was perfectly cast in her role.

Very well-made film. There's a strange family: a mother with children who can't be in sunlight. They think they have a ghost in their home... and they're probably right. An award-winning film that deals with the supernatural in an interesting way.
