Good movie
I always tune in to watch this movie when I see it on TV. It's definitely an emotional tearjerker about the love story of Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling).

Lacking Invention
This type of tale has been told over and over again. The Notebook relied too heavily on character motifs, which resulted in unsatisfactory exploration of motive. The whole movie suffered from severe melodrama. The parallels would have been more interesting had there been more commentary about the effects of a youthful torrid romance on the aged.

I watched this movie because every one of my friends and coworkers recommended it to be the BEST! However, I was truly disappointed! It was very predictable, and there were so many goofs that I was able to point out. This story has been done so many times before. It was like they took ten movie plots and combined them all into one. Two thumbs down for me!

The Notebook
I rated this film as disappointing although I want to stress it did have its good parts. The beginning was so beautiful and poetical. As was the ending when the intention of the story was revealed. But the part in between those moments was a waste of my time. Just a normal, non surprising chick- flick.

The Notebook would be a tearjerker to say the least. The story is relatively simple, boy and girl meet and fall in love but the girl's prestigious parents won't allow such a low-rank lowlife date their daughter and so their departure is inevitable.Years pass and by coincidence they so happen to meet again. You can guess most of the rest. The story however is not the impressive part of the film as much as the chemistry between the two characters the story revolves around.Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling make this movie work.I believed every second of the relationship was real because the passion among them was so alive. This is one for the romantics.

At first, I only gave this movie 2 stars and now I am giving it 2 1/2 stars. Now, don't get all huffy on my yet! Let me explain. I know some of you are already thinking 'Oh, I bet she read the book.' Yes, I did read the book, and let me tell you, it was much better than most of this nonsense. I made the mistake of reading the book first and then watching the movie, resulting in my 2 star rating. A few years later and it winds up on television and so I decide to give it a second chance. To me, there are just way too many flaws for me to give it a really solid 3. I gave it the extra +.5 for: 1) Ryan Gosling is as hot as ever, and 2) The amazing ending that had me bawling like a baby. I guess the first time around, I didn't pay close enough attention to give in to all my emotions, but, man, did it get me the second time! So, if you are a heartsick for a good romance, I recommend you read the book. If you like a hot guy and a pretty girl with little chemistry, watch the movie. 1/8/09

If you like romantic, sappy, sad movies, then The Notebook is for you. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but if you don't like those kind of movies, then you should steer clear of this movie. The Notebook is a story about an old man (James Garner) that reads a love story out of a notebook to an old woman (Gena Rowlands) in a nursing home. The story he reads her is about the enduring love between a boy named Noah (Ryan Gosling) and girl named Allie (Rachel McAdams).
This movie was really good and definitely tugs at the heart strings - especially at the end. I thought the chemistry between Gosling and McAdams was really good, but wasn't that impressed by McAdams acting. The story and idea of the way the movie unfolded was ambitious, but very well executed. I also thought the script had some dialogue that didn't fit for the period that Noah and Allie's story was set in. I was really impressed with Gosling in this movie and also recently saw him in Murder by Numbers. He seems to be a good change of pace for leading male roles, so I'll be interested to see how he does in future films.
