This would have been, hands-down, the best horror movie I had ever seen until the last ten minutes of the movie ruined everything. The movie had everything that the majority of horror movies lack - good acting, a deep, complex, and well-thought out storyline, and a perfect balance between gore and suspense. But in the last ten minutes of the film, the twist is revealed and manages to make you regret watching the entire movie at all. If the writer had ended it any other way, this would have been a spectacular movie. But he picked the most ridiculous and stupid ending possible. Go ahead and watch this movie, at the very least it was entertaining from start to finish.

4/10 Had the potential to be a great slasher movie. But then it went in a whole different direction and just left me confused. It wasn't scary, the gore was more amusing than sickening and I did not need to see Leslie Bibb get bent over a counter and taken from behind by Bradley Cooper. The premise was good, it started out strong, but then they lost my interest with the "twist".

Having read the short story on which this is based, I have to say that this is a good adaptation. The original story is much more static--meaning the settings are more fixed, sot here's not a lot of "movement." The elements added to make this into a film, I felt, were good. I felt the story behind the movie was very good. Some have said the ending was odd. The ending was true to the short story. It IS an odd ending, but it's pretty much how the story ended, so in that regard, the filmmakers did a great job. I also thought the camera work and effects were very good. The gore is over-the-top, but being a die-hard horror fan AND being a fan of Lion's Gate's work, I was not fazed by it (I expected it.) Plus, the story itself is very gory. The very premise is gory, so the gore, I felt, was not out of line. For those not familiar with the story, the film may be a bit slow-moving in spots.

Beyond the incredible title Midnight Meat Train is a gory horror/mystery. Based upon a short story written by Clive Barker, who also is one of the film's producers, the film follows a photographer who attempts to escape the mundane world of newspaper photographer to the world of high art photography by capturing the true heart of the city. He does this by photographing the nocturnal activities of the inhabitants of the city's downtown area and subway system. When one of his subjects comes up missiing his obsession to discover the truth drags him deep into a labyrinth of butchery and murder that is not what it seems to be.
I liked the mystery aspect of the movie. It implies a supernatural aspect but is never explicitly stated. The violence was bloody and gruesome but the use of CGI in certain scenes lessened the realism. The final reveal will either satisfy you or leave you rolling your eyes but I will say this for the film - it at least had a story to tell unlike the Strangers.

In the rut of horror movies these days, this was a good surprise. While the story is somewhat chaotic and nothing is ever really explained or given any history - it's pretty good anyways. What makes it so good is the directing and lighting, it creates a great sense of tension and the shadows here and never give you a great view of Vinnie's face. All the cast members put in great performances, no duds here. It never really scared me to be honest, but I was cringing in various scenes and there was some good gore. The cgi effects are the only serious eyesore in the movie, they're all pretty sub-average in that their colors and lighting never seem to match the movie - and therefore stick out as cgi inserts. It ends in a fairly predictable way, but the ride is fun.

I was very surprised at how good of a horror flick this turned out to be. Some of the kill scenes were as brutal as any I have seen and the way it was filmed was very creative and engaging.

An effective twist on the silent Psycho genre.
The Midnight Meat Train lives and dies with Vinnie Jones' delightful silent performance as a bloodthirsty serial killer. To be able to get this close to the bad guy can sometimes ruin a horror movie, but never does Meat Train go too far in that direction. Expertly, just enough of everything is shown, without going too far overboard at the end. When this movie gets released, it will be a big hit in the horror genre, in the way that Saw I was revolutionary for shining a light on the more independent aspects of the horror film world. Hopefully it can bring just as many sequels.
