The Limey, 1999

I've seen a number of write-ups of this movie that describe it as a "thinking person's action movie." Perhaps "thinking person" is a euphemism for stoner. As other reviewers have noted, the actors gave universally excellent performances. However the "interwoven" storytelling technique does not enhance the movie: it just makes it longer and more confusing. And for a moving this boring to be this confusing is a neat trick. Perhaps the best way of describing The Limey is that it looks like a movie that I (a high school science teacher with pretensions of coolness) would have directed in an attempt to make an arty action movie. At least I'm honest enough with myself to know that the result, like The Limey, would be better left on the cutting room floor.
