The Housemaid, 2010

I say let go and watch the protagonist story unfold. But to do so you must let go of American sensibilities. Except the reality of the housemaids life as a person without a passport into the finer things. Know that her station in life has been cast and is immutable. In a life of less than the chance to view into the more than is overwhelming. There is nothing to be done when the master of the house takes her. In fact she begin to think of it as intimacy and imbues the abuse with a naive romanticism. She does not heed the duplicitous and often cruel head housekeeper. In fact her very naive optimism infects the housekeeper, we see this result toward the end of the film. We see the housemaids transformation as she take each cruelty with aplomb but at the final atrocity she can swallow no more. Hope leaks from her like blood and she plots and extracts what she thinks of revenge. Of course we know as does the head housekeeper that there is only one way this will end because the boundaries of this society are immutable. This is a "must see" in my book.
