The Great Debaters, 2007

Much better than I anticipated! This is not a standard 'teacher/coach changes student's lives' feel-good film; while it's delving into racial relations in the turn-of-the century South feels at times heavy handed and unnecessary, the social issues and hot topics that are addresed raise this film above the standard for this sub-genre. And of course Washington and Whitaker are simple amazing, as always.
