The Girlfriend Experience, 2009

Steven Soderbergh attempt's to return to the indy fame he had in the late eighties with Sex Lies & Videotape with this films, The Girlfriend Experience. Steven takes this rather simple tale and turns it on it's side by mashing all of these things together no matter when they take place. With a lot of out of focus shots and scenes that seem to run on too long Soderbergh believes he's hinting at what it means to be Indy. Everything seems so thrown together from the shots, to the acting. The frame is either way to wide, or way to close to whatever you're trying to focus on, and you constantly are left waiting for a rack focus, but instead if something will happen in the background later in this scene the focus will be there even while an entire conversation is going on in the foreground. Yes, by casting a pornstar and shooting this on a low budget very quickly will drum up some feedback about your film, the only problem is that it's awful. This story could have been much better, and some incite into these people, and their lives would have been nice. Instead we see a bunch of Drones live out a small part of their life in which we don't understand.

The film is great, intensly realistic and keeps you seated for the entire film. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. I never criticize acting because, lets be real, there is no way I could ever even do half as good as the worst actor in hollywood...let alone anyone else who criticizes these actors. But what I do want to say is that I appreciate the ego bust that soderbergh places on the Sasha Greys character...being in college, I have met plenty of girls like Chelsey - they are a dime a dozen. I have had plenty of gorgeous women myself and would never stand for the crap she has put her boyfriend through. No man should ever stand for the bullshoit...a girl is never worth that, because there are plenty of them out there to find.
