It's no secret I had disdain for the first Fantastic Four movie. This film is not high cinema but really, what do you expect? If you go in with nothing more than wanting to be entertained for 120 minutes then this film will surely do that. Lighthearted and funny; normally those are two qualities that I dislike in comic-book adaptations but it really works on this film.
Silver Surfer steals the movie and Doug Jones (and the CGI animators) does a great job playing the role while Laurance Fishburn does an awesome job voicing the role. Dr. Doom isn't so godawful in this film either, as he was in the first one.
This film actually redeems the series and I like it more than most comic-book adaptations, minus the first two Batman, Batman Begins, Hellboy and the Spider-Man movies.

Who writes movies these days, infants? That or this movie was aimed squarely at children, because no adult could find this entertaining IMO. I could forgive the filmakers if they'd at least made it interesting, then I could overlook all the rest of the garbage, but as it was that would be impossible. Specifics? The surfer is hardly part of the movie (and not explained), the FF never use their powers much, the military story is a joke, von Doom is hardly used (why is he even there) - the majority of the movie is the leadup which is all filler with laughable dialogue and adolescent jokes and one dimensional characters. Pass.

Some of the storylines are goofy but it's entertaining and is a short film that goes by quickly. It's worth a viewing and you can see it without paying much attention.

First off, everyone please flag the second review on this movie's page (by 'The ben man) as 'Not a Review' because it isn't and that upsets me. OK, now, the movie: FF in general is lighter in tone than the other Marvel series, but both movies have now taken that too far and made an almost-comedy, which FF has never been. They are actually super heroes who have an allegorical existence, much like Spider-Man. That being said, I enjoyed this movie a bit more than the first. It's complete lack of taking itself seriously sometimes works in it's favor, and the Silver Surfer is actually quite enigmatic and interesting. The interplay between the FF is pretty dead-on and the characters seem to finally be fleshing out; perhaps by the thurd movie, they'll feel real. Despite it's shortcomings, I had a pretty good time watching it and I'm probably gonna buy it for my Super Hero DVD collection.

4/10Disappointing
"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" is a mediocre film that squanders any opportunity for drama or character development and opts instead for repeating the trite dynamics between the Fantastic Four ad nauseam. That Johnny Storm, what a scamp; Mr. Fantastic, what an unromantic nerd. Oh, brother! The acting is pretty leaden. There was no need whatsoever to bring back Doctor Doom, but I guess it was thought he'd add more star power (he doesn't). Little of the backstory regarding the Silver Surfer and Galactus is revealed, and I was disappointed that the latter was never shown on screen.
