4/10Disappointing
"The Eye" is far more of a tragedy than a horror film. The heroine can see dead people. Some of them look a bit scary, but they can't actually do anything and, with few exceptions, the living are entirely unaware that these ghosts are still standing mournfully in the corners of elevators or licking shop windows. Shadowy figures escort the dead out of this world if they're leaving it, and if a lot of those shadowy figures gather in one place then a whole bunch of people are about to die. The heroine, who has received a cornea transplant from a psychic donor, can now see all this. Aside from the final scene, which is the only truly horrific scene in the film, there's more sadness than terror in "The Eye" and it tends to drag and get rather weepy, too. One would have to be rather inexperienced with horror flicks to be affected in the least by this one. I've seen several of the Pang Brothers' movies now and have come away underwhelmed every time.

Angelica Lee is does a good job of accentuating the fear we all have of what is right behind us. Is there something behind me? Should I turn around? Can I? A good fright but could be scarier.
