Famed spaghetti-western director Sergio Leone tried out a different genre when he released this Greek historical epic in 1961. The story revolves around a huge statue of Apollo that has been constructed in Rhodes. Darios (Rory Calhoun) is a military man who has just returned to the city, where he attempts to engage in a relationship with Diala (Lea Massari), the daughter of the man who built the statue. But Darios's dalliances with a gang of local rebels upsets the equilibrium in the city and--aided by the coincidental eruption of an earthquake--chaos breaks out.
