It was touching and compassionate in a way that we all wish the world and the people in it could be. Not many people can make themselves vulnerable and help others. This movie shows that it is okay to do that.

Nice film if you're the Hallmark Hall Of Fame type or watches The Lifetime Channel. What we have here is the true story of NFL star Michael Oher, a troubled black youth who is taken in by Leigh Tuohy and her family. A nice, simple and inspirational story, but this film's overindulgence of sentiment sends it off track. Sandra Bullock does a servicable job as the strong-minded Christian southern bell with a heart of gold. But let's be realistic here, this is not exactly a tour de force performance. She must have had little competition to win the Oscar for this role. As is often the case with Sandra Bullock, there just wasn't much to her performance. She did a credible job, but there is no oscar worthy performance to be found here. This is hollywood fluff, packaged and certified for public consumption. Yes, its a true story, yes its inspirational, and yes it makes you feel good. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what you're looking for in a film. Just don't expect to find high art here. This film was on auto-pilot from the get go. No chances are taken to disrupt the flow of safe sentiment and homoginized drama.

sometimes cliches just work
this film is extremely hollywoodic and full of cliches, but sometimes that's not such a bad thing. there's a reason why those cliches were formed, and when they are used propertly in a good story, they just work.
