Like many people, this is one of my all time favorites. I love this movie and I recommend it, if you have not seen it you are missing out on a great movie. One of Alfred Hitchcocks' best films. 5*****STARS

What made this movie unlikeable for me were the often laughable bird attack scenes. None of them looked particularly painful. The birds seem to have an appetite for nibbling on ears and fingers almost exclusively. I do not know how that could kill you, so that kind of took away from the film for me. There are more unintentional laughs, especially during a scene when Tippi Hedren does a triple take as she watches a gasoline puddle go up in flames. The camerawork in that scene is particularly awful. Despite the films' problems, the idea of birds attacking people doesn't seem all that farfetched, so that keeps things pretty tense. Overall, this is a decent movie that is mostly hindered by the time in which it was released (The birds just don't cut it in most scenes - they would be much more believable if it were made today).

It's amazing to see what Hitchcock did 45 years ago when special effects were lame and budgets were nothing compared to today's. I don't know how he did it - but during those horror scenes you just feel so nervous and distressed that you actually want to stop. You can FEEL pressure, like you're in the scene and one of those birds is gonna have you for lunch! Hollywood is supposed to do a remake soon but no matter how much money they pour in, they'll never be able to replicate this director's ability to make you shiver. One of Hitchcock's best.
