I have seen this movie probably 50 times. Ironically, the first time I saw it, I didn't like it. These days, I can just about quote it verbatim. If you enjoy funny, character-driven movies, then The Big Lebowski is for you. Dont' worry too much...

If you enjoy funny, character-driven movies, then The Big Lebowski is for you. Dont' worry too much about the plot, just focus on the characters' dialogue and you'll be very dude-like.

This is a pretty darn good movie, but not quite deserving of the millions of adoring and somewhat psychotic fans it has garnered. What really makes the film so enjoyable are the scenes in the bowling alley, where the interplay between Bridges, Goodman and Buscemi is hilarious, goofy and almost surreal. Goodman especially proves himself a comic genius, especially his timing. The character of 'The Dude', played by Bridges, has been over-estimated by our popular culture; The Dude is a bit one-note--the lackadaisical stoner-slacker with words of wisdom is not only a limited joke, but already overdone in films much before this one. But this comic misfire does allow for philosophical comment (and the cameo by Sam Elliot helps immensely in this department) and the other actors playing off of Bridges' stock Dude are what often puts the film into overdrive. While 'Lebowski' is not the modern classic many claim it to be--it's not even the Coen's second best film--it's still quite good and worth more than mere entertainment.

hilarious!
I couldn't stop laughing while watching this film. It's the Coens' best comedy. very clever. A really good, crazy story with a hilarious cast of characters. just pure fun.

One of the best movies I ever watched!
First of all, Bridge's character is SO cool. So much crazy stuff happens to him and around him, yet he stays cool and calm. Not even his dumb buddies or the death of one of them can pull him off course. I loved the concept of the bowling alley as a holy place where you can even meet Jesus. Great laughs throughout and great ideas, some of them quite surreal (might not work for everybody). It's a Coen Brothers film, so no wonder it's offbeat and unique. If you're looking for an enjoyable time - this is the film to watch.
