It is certainly nice (and rare) for the last two horror movies I've seen to actually be decent. Coming off of seeing the Ring two, I was bracing myself for a letdown with the remake of The Amityville Horror. Thankfully, this was not entirely the case. The acting in this movie was decent. Ryan Reynolds came across fine until the end where I found his performance sub-par. I'll give a hats off to Chloe Moretz as her portrayal of the daughter came across very creepy and perfect. Isabel Conner as Jodie was also perfect in her role. The pacing of this movie was decent, though I caught myself checking my watch a couple of times. There were a couple of good scares but you mostly felt creepied out the entire movie. I enjoyed it up until the end...which I felt could have been much much better.
As is typical with horror movies, this is not a good movie for kids. There is lots of violence including a fairly graphic scene of people being tortured. There is one, pretty tame, sex scene and plenty of language.
Overall I enjoyed this movie. There were some really good jumps and they created the perfect creepy feeling for the house. My only complaint is how Ryan Reynolds pulled off the ending. Other than that, a fairly solid remake.

Another miserable remake of a decent story. For me, there was no point in the movie where I felt tension, fear or even some stress of wondering. It's all so transparent and on top of it all, boring. There's the little ghost girl, and the axe wielding father and the scary boat propeller and some hogwash about some guy and sacrifices and other stuff I won't spoil - but in the end it's all cheap methods to invoke a fright. For me, while the 1970's version was also not that great, it was better at building some tension and believable characters. This one left me bored silly.
