The 13th Warrior, 1999

"THE 13TH WARRIOR" is an action movie in that there's loads of fighting and gusto, but it's primarily a sort of historical (well, pseudo-historical) drama about an Arab who finds himself in the company of Norsemen during (say) the dark or middle ages, in a quest to free a land from evil spirit-men called the Wen. The story takes some of its trappings from the "Beowulf" saga, but the action really revolves around the Arab coming to understand the strange Viking culture. At first he's repelled by what he considers barbarians, but later comes to respect and love them. And learn from them. The film follows the Michael Crighton novel, a tour de force, closely. There's not much point to it, but it's very pleasant to watch (even though a lot of it is shot in the dark, or so it seems) and to follow.
