If you think you're a movie buff and haven't seen Taxi Driver and don't want to; you should consider another hobby. Must See.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest films ever made. One of the most complex screenplays, and Martin Scorsese's absolute best film. This film can be interpreted many ways, but to sum it all up this film is about loneliness. How this didn't win any of the four academy award nominations beats me but it's true american classic. This isn't a popcorn fair, it requires an intelligent audience that doesn't mind pessimism and brutal honesty. Taxi Driver has the most psychological depth than any other film and will always remain a cinematic treasure.

8/10Great
This movie has a cult status that precedes it, and I can understand why. The character of the Taxi Driver - played by Robert De Niro - is built throughout the film very well, and you are given an inside look into his head through his journal entries. The character may be great, but the movie takes quite a long time to build to the ultimate moments that give it its cult status. I loved it most when it reaches this point. My only other problem with Taxi Driver is the disappointing soundtrack. In the movie, there is a single song played on a saxophone repeatedly, and it is very out of place. It gets annoying when you hear it for the fifteenth time (And I am not exaggerating). I don't know why they couldn't have afforded more songs, or simply left it quiet instead. Still, the movies status is deserved, and De Niro and Jodie Foster give outstanding performances. Their talents make this film work.

Boy, the Big Apple sure seemed like a scuz-hole back in the 1970s, thanks to Taxi Driver, French Connection and other films of their ilk. Perhaps that's because NYC really was that bad. Why then, I wonder, did Woody Allen seem to love it so much?...

Why then, I wonder, did Woody Allen seem to love it so much? ...but I digress. I'd been meaning to get around to seeing this movie for some time, hoping to find another Scorsese film, besides The Departed, that I like, but this was not it, I'm afraid. Technically it's good, like all Scorsese pictures, by which I mean it's gritty, it's real, it's shocking, it's got Robert DeNiro,... but it's just not that enjoyable. You can't help but feel uncomfortable watching it, especially during scenes in which low-life characters talk frankly about a 12-year-old prostitute's... um... talents. It's just icky. So is the violence. Admittedly, there is not a whole lot of it in the film, but what little there is is quite gross. I suppose that was intentional, to enhance the film's rawness, but that doesn't make it any more fun to watch.

Taxi Driver
De Niro is obviously tremendous as this lone wolf that turns to violence. I gotta admit, for some reason it's not one of my favourites, but I cant deny its huge importance.

the father of all "losing it hero" movies. Martin Scorsese who was 34 years old when he made Taxi driver did some small and good films (mean streets) primer to this one, but this is the movie that made Scorsese what he is today, one of the most appreciated directors of all time. you can't write a review about Taxi driver without mentioning De niro's acting, probably his best in a movie. a classic movie about obsession and the effect that war has on some people, if you haven't watched it you must.
